Disney Princess Controversy

The recent re-design of Princess Merida by Disney for their official Disney Princess line has caused quite a lot of controversy. Disney took their newest Princess and gave her a new design that many people objected too. Merida's redesigns were not the first to get a negative reaction in the newest line however. The most recent set of new Princess designs had a very strong negative reaction. Many people did not like any of the new designs and especially disliked the over use of sparkles in the new look. Before the release of Merida, both Pocahontas and Mulans new looks were openly disliked by the loyal followers of Disney. Mulans had a strong enough negative reaction, that Disney officially changed the redesign to attempt to please the public which was successful. Many people were very satisfied with Mulans new-new look. Merida's design was also openly bashed to the point of changing. Merida was given a much smaller waist, a lower cut dress, a more tame hairdo and her face was completely changed. Disney originally cited the complications of changing 3D into 2D being the reason for her looking so dramatically different, and while that can be a reason, everyone could easily see that there was no need for her face to appear so different. Disney caved to the pressure and changed Merida's look but unlike with Mulan, they did not keep it in the style of the new redesigns, rather they just simply put her back into her original state which makes her look very out of place in the lineup. As of now, Disney has yet to attempt to redesign Merida again and she remains in her untouched 3D state. It is truly only a matter of time before we see Merida's look change again but the question is how different will she look? Many people hope that when her design is changed again, she will still look very close to her original design but as of now only time can tell.
