Disney's "Frozen" first official teaser and promotional photos

The Walt Disney Company has finally released its first true promotion for the highly anticipated upcoming film, Frozen. Concept art from the movie has been released before but never anything that truly confirmed the look and feel of the movie. The new trailer features a clumsy snowman and very dog like Reindeer fighting over the Snowman's carrot nose. The Snowman accidentally loses his nose in one of his clumsy antics and the reindeer just see it as food, not realizing that it is the Snowman's nose. Silly antics ensue for the entire minute and fifty-one seconds of the trailer. The trailer is meant to be funny and does not actually show any of the main characters, Anna, Elsa or Kristoff. This is a very unusual trailer for the Walt Disney Company, their heavy focus on the humor as opposed to the beauty and interact plot of their film. The trailer is very reminiscent of the many trailers Blue Sky Studios has released for their Ice Age franchise. The shenanigans and trouble the snow man is put through to get his nose back is almost exactly like the way Blue Sky features their character Skrat, trying to get the acorn whilst running through a precarious situation. Many long-time and loyal Disney fans are very disappointed in the teaser trailer for this reason. It is a highly anticipated movie and one that has been anticipated for a long, long time and after all that waiting, to see two side characters bubbling around over something silly feels like a slap in the face to some fans. This is only a teaser however and there is still very much hope especially with the recently released official stills for the movie which are absolutely gorgeous and have appeased some of the fans who were upset with the trailer. The new stills show all three of the main characters. In stunning high resolution, there is still a lot to learn about this movie in the months to come before its November release, but it is sure to be a wonderful and classic film just like the many other films the Walt Disney Company has released.

Disney Princess Controversy

The recent re-design of Princess Merida by Disney for their official Disney Princess line has caused quite a lot of controversy. Disney took their newest Princess and gave her a new design that many people objected too. Merida's redesigns were not the first to get a negative reaction in the newest line however. The most recent set of new Princess designs had a very strong negative reaction. Many people did not like any of the new designs and especially disliked the over use of sparkles in the new look. Before the release of Merida, both Pocahontas and Mulans new looks were openly disliked by the loyal followers of Disney. Mulans had a strong enough negative reaction, that Disney officially changed the redesign to attempt to please the public which was successful. Many people were very satisfied with Mulans new-new look. Merida's design was also openly bashed to the point of changing. Merida was given a much smaller waist, a lower cut dress, a more tame hairdo and her face was completely changed. Disney originally cited the complications of changing 3D into 2D being the reason for her looking so dramatically different, and while that can be a reason, everyone could easily see that there was no need for her face to appear so different. Disney caved to the pressure and changed Merida's look but unlike with Mulan, they did not keep it in the style of the new redesigns, rather they just simply put her back into her original state which makes her look very out of place in the lineup. As of now, Disney has yet to attempt to redesign Merida again and she remains in her untouched 3D state. It is truly only a matter of time before we see Merida's look change again but the question is how different will she look? Many people hope that when her design is changed again, she will still look very close to her original design but as of now only time can tell.

Animation and the movie industry

In the business of animation technology is constantly improving. New things are coming out every all the time. The CGI and 3D industry is a strong one right now. Almost every movie that is coming out is in 3D and you’d be hard pressed to find a movie that doesn’t feature some form of CGI. CGI is the main form of animation used in animated movies right now and I don’t see that trend going away anytime soon. 2D animation has taken a backseat to CGI animation and it’s definitely going to stay that way. The movie and animation industry are always on the look out for new and fresh talent. This is an advantage given to anyone as a recent graduate. 3D technologies in movies have been greatly improving over the years many people who used to dislike it are even beginning to warm up to the idea. The 3D movie has been seen by many as a gimmick and while it certainly can be used in a gimmicky way that is not necessarily a reason to look at it negatively. Most movies can be looked at as a gimmick themselves but it’s something people accept and people enjoy movies. The 3D in movies makes them more enjoyable and even makes them almost feel interactive. CGI animated cartoons used to been seen as almost a novelty in the animation industry and they have now become the norm, 2D films could easily be seen as a novelty now. Some people say they dislike CGI cartoons and miss the good ole days of 2D animation but truly those people are simply looking through nostalgia goggles and miss the true beauty of CGI. Being a recent graduate going into the going animation industry it is important to remember and respect the idea of CGI animation because it is what movies are designed in now.
